Neil McDonald is one of the Founding Directors of the Social Enterprise Stour Space, the not for profit Art Gallery and community platform based in Fish Island / Hackney Wick. Neil was the principal designer of the interior fit out of the venue which aims to create an environment to promote collaboration and showcase the value and viability of creative enterprise. Neil has participated in numerous self-build projects within HW/FI and actively promotes the value of mixed-use development and the Arts within social structures. He also played a lead role in utilising the Localism Act to list Stour Space and Vittoria Wharf as an Asset of Community Value, one of the first in the country to be listed under the Community right to bid policy.
Neil is also a Sculptor and Designer with a particular focus on the contrast of nature and industry. His work majorly uses natural and found objects and often incorporates interactive elements such as touch and sound. His wider portfolio includes work of jewellery, furniture, musical instruments and bespoke woodwork.
