We came across a wonderful old song about Hackney Wick, friends from the Trowbridge Club in the Wick sang it to us, we then discovered a copy of it through the wonderful 'Up the Manor' Project where the Eton Manor Boys had recently re-recorded the song!
Here are the lyrics, remember to have a banana at the end
Eton Manor boy’s song
Dear old Hackney Wick
The place of our abode
There is no other in the land, it beats the mile end road
It’s there that we were born, it’s there that we will stick
There is no other in the land like dear old hackney wick
Have a banan
Bananas were rather an unknown and exotic entity in early post
war Britain as seen in this account from the BBC's
WW2 People's Archive.
