BOATCLUB/JOHNSTONE BOATHOUSE 1934 AD

The Eton Manor Boys Club have been meeting up since the 40’s, many still live in the area and around Leyton.
It's a really interesting site, the club still runs and was set up by the ‘Old Boys Club’, its charming, old and has a lot of character.

It is quite bizarre with old pictures of old rowing stars; Fred Mitchell, Harry Malham and Fred Grace! There is also training equipment which is still in use, when you look over the canal to the blue fence you can see the arrival of the new Olympics site.

The official rowing race for Olympics will take place at Eton which will be in memory and respect of the rowing culture of Hackney Wick at dawn in 2012
The old boathouse is where the Christmas morning swim would take place, it would have been freezing! There were around 15 swimmer’s, they would race 10 yards there and 10 yards back. The race would be fixed so that either the very young kids would win or the families who had the least money. The winning prize was a turkey or a chicken for their Christmas lunch!
